There’s a slotted disk attached to the wheel. When it is turned too far, a spring loaded pin pops into a slot and locks the wheel. The whole pin mechanism then retracts when the key is turned. This video brought to you by the fact that the center of our Jeep’s steering wheel just pops right off.

Steering wheel locks are all fine and dandy until the spring decides it’s done springing and your wheel get stuck locked and your car can only go straight. Thanks for that day of what the fuck, BMW.

I’ve wondered - why doesn’t someone make a bike lock that works in a similar manner, locking the crank and the steering stem*?

* I can’t remember the correct term at the moment.
